A whole bunch of Science Bloggers are getting together in NYC in a few weeks and we're putting on a meet and greet for our readers. It will be somewhere in Manhattan, possibly in Central Park, in an air conditioned place, on August 9th around 3 in the afternoon. We'll have snacks, ScienceBlogs swag and lots of fun. But we need to have at least a rough idea of how many are going to be there, so anyone who might attend please leave a comment here so we can plan.
I got to meet 11 Dispatches readers in Austin last week and it was a blast, really the highlight of the trip for me. I can't wait to meet the folks in New York as well.

Oh, I can 95% sure be there! Which bloggers will be attending?
Keep us up to date on the time and place.

I can't attend, being stuck down here in Dallas (and I'm now really wishing I had made the effort to go see you in Austin -- that sounded like a great event). But I just have to ask: A place that has air conditioning? In Central Park? What the heck kind of park has air conditioning?

NYC, really? I want to hear more, who are the bloggers and where shall this NYCPL librarian find them?

I'd like to attend, as would my partner.
We both read this and a few of the other science blogs with great interest, despite being basically liberal arts girls.

(Those last two comments are by two different Hypatias. We can have a duel for the name or something at the meet-up.)

I'll try to be there depending on the date. Thanks for the great site.

Put me down as a definite maybe.

The date will be August 9th in the afternoon, probably 2-4 or 3-5. The location is still being worked out, but probably somewhere either in Central Park or nearby.

Oh, as for the other bloggers who will be attending, here are the ones who have announced their attendance publicly:
Sheril from the Intersection; Orac from Respectful Insolence; Jake from Pure Pedantry; Zuska from Thus Spake Zuska; Josh from Thoughts from Kansas; Coturnix from Blog Around the Clock; Brain from Laelaps; Janet from Adventures in Ethics and Science (who I hear can drink any of us under the table; I don't plan to challenge her); Mark from the Denialism blog; and the infamous GrrlScientist. There are more, I think about 30 of us altogether, but those are the ones who've announced it publicly.

I'll be there "unless something really bad or something really good happens to me", as one radio talk show host puts it...

Not fair. I'm currently nowhere near NYC. I would have loved to meet all of you.

BAH! As a Jersey Boy living in Boston I'm jealous of all my HS friends in the NYC area...again.

Ummmm. I'm IN the NYCPL right now. I guess you just need to look harder. :-)
(Sorry Ed, I have plans that day and can't make it.)

Barring some diaster, I should be there.
I'm sure he appreciated the description.
We New Yorkers have tried not to let get it around for fear of jealosy but we've had the whole place air conditioned. It cost a bit to have it done but we've made up for it by selling off some bridges ... want one?
BTW, the American Museum of Natural Histoy is just across the street from the park. (Hint)

Hypatia 2 "requested" a duel for the name or something at the meet-up.
Fearless Leader observed Janet from Adventures in Ethics and Science ... can drink any of us under the table.
I see the vague outlines of the contest there...

I'll try to make it.

Someone needs to invite Ed over here to London to sample good European culture (boiled veg and warm beer). :-)

Not to mention some wonderful spotted dick.

You can count me in.

Maaan I wish I could come. I'm only a few hours north but, honestly, I don't think I can afford the drive down. Maybe I'll see if I can catch a bus or train.
Hope I can make it.

I'd love to attend, but I'm a few hours away and I'm not sure whether or not I'll be able to find a way to get there.

So... are you going to be there or not?

In the Hamptons that weekend sorry!
Posted by: Dave | July 24, 2008 8:25 PM
I'd like to come too, if only for the Hypatia vs. Hypatia drinking contest.

...Janet from Adventures in Ethics and Science (who I hear can drink any of us under the table; I don't plan to challenge her)...
But with this kind of press, the mother worries. I trust YOU to a) NOT attempt to drink her under the table b) make sure she makes it onto the plane to get back to her family in reasonable shape.
But other than that, have a great time. We'll do a debrief in a couple of weeks.
