How KVERT got its groove back (temporarily)

Category: AviationKamchatkaPolitics of volcanoesRussiaShiveluchVolcano monitoringVolcanoes and the economy

Shiveluch in Kamchatka in an undated photo.

Just a quick note, but I got this email overnight regarding the status of KVERT, the Kamchatka-Kuril Island volcano monitoring body in Russia.

Scientists of KVERT Project return to the full KVERT operations (the
information ensuring of air services for the results of daily analysis
and evaluation of activity of Kamchatka and Northern Kuriles
volcanoes) and will discharge these obligations for 01 February - 30
April 2010.

So, after losing their funding, it has some back until the end of April (based on how I read this). Russian politics as usual? A window to get real funding in place? Who knows, but at least for the time being, KVERT is up and running again.

{Hat tip to Eruptions reader Tsunami for also bringing this to my attention.}

It's a temporary window for the Federation authorities to shuffle priorities, negotiate and hopefully secure long-term operation of instrument monitoring... with help from 'friends' abroad who are also direct beneficiaries of KVERT/SVERT reports and studies.

Noww if they will just gvie them full funding and permently as wel.. No more of thsi every couple opf years taking their funding away and playing gmaes when airtraffic and lives are at risk.

So how many Russian flyways are impacted by KVert/Svert?
i suspect we(USA) are the main benefactors.......
And weather systems send us their ash; right down the western coast of America.
i suspect we need to suport the Russians.
i suspect there aren't enough educated political
people to even start this. We run into enough
problems convincing our people to support volcanic
monitoring. Recent government officials tried to cut
funding. And i suspect with money getting tighter;
less people will see the wisdom of backing vocanic
monitoring.

And because they do not have to worry about volcanic ash where they live. That does not make it right though to say it is not worth it when they do not know how danerous ash is and how importnat it is to mointor volcanoes. They need to get educated on the subject before they have the right to decide what to and what not to fund.

If you are maintain to within the obstruction: capture your preferred headset, mind all the way down to a Good Use and tend to ask a good way to connect them right into a Zune after the iPod and see which one might seem better to you, and which will border positions you simper much more. Then we'll understand that's good for you.

I was thinking of publishing or posting online some of my articles I've written for school but can't afford to copyright them. If they are in my school paper, do I hold any ownership over them or are they protected by law?.

I have been browsing online more than three hours as of late, yet I by no means discovered any attention-grabbing article like yours. Itˇ¦s lovely price sufficient for me. In my view, if all website owners and bloggers made just right content material as you did, the internet will likely be a lot more helpful than ever before.

With the potential for voter fraud in the MA election, I wonder if Jimmy Carter will show up to assure fairness. He travels all over the world for that purpose. This time, he could cut travel expenses by get ting on the bus with the SEIU or Acorn crowd.

Art is not necessary at all. All that is necessary to make this world a better place to live in is to love - to love as Christ loved, as Buddha loved.
