STOMP

Ramya and I went to the STOMP show yesterday in London Westend. The STOMP folks create rhythms out of everyday objects like brooms, sticks, sinks and such. I dig such performances where ordinary objects are transformed into artistic expressions. STOMP is in the same vein as the Blue Man Group (which is another great show to watch).

STOMP is a very high energy show with loads of ear splitting noise, gut spilling stomps, and palm numbing claps - all great fun, of course. I had my ears throbbing all night. I also had my neck permanently bent from yesterday after watching the whole show with head tilted to one side. We had a gentlemen sit in front of us who must surely be friends with the giraffe.

At one point, the performers had kitchen sinks hanging over their belly tied with ropes around their necks. There was water in the sink and they splashed around a bit to amuse and drench the front seats. The end of that act had the folks drain the sink into buckets placed under the sink. It was like pissing. Apparently, this is a hit with the women folk in the audience because there was a lot of cheer from the women when one of the male artists made a convincing case of blissful bladder discharge.

There are rough edges in the show. The comic acts can use more ... panache (or maybe it was british humor, which often escapes me).

I was actually thinking of writing a bit about what we perceive as music and such. Unfortunately, my brain is still wobbling inside and I see no coherent thoughts at sight. Need coffee now.
