'Tisn't the Season

I needed to buy a few things for the house and yard yesterday, so I packed the kids into the car and headed off to the store. What I saw when I got there didn't make me feel very jolly, and I'm afraid that I said a few things that were naughty, not nice. One of the things that I said seemed to be a common refrain - I heard minor variations on it from at least two other people who walked in behind me: "You've gotta be shi--ing me! It's not even Halloween yet!"

I apologize for the poor quality on the pictures. The camera phone isn't great to start with, and I was still trying to figure out whether to laugh or cry when I took them.

You've gotta love it, don't you. This kind of thing - turning Christmas into a 90-day holiday season - attracts littile complaint from the religious right. It doesn't trivialize the holiday, or unfairly eliminate the religious meaning, or anything like that. But saying "Happy Holidays" does.

The Christmas season is already upon us? Shoot! I'm not going to be ready to "get my war on" for another month and a half, at the very least! Some evil atheist I am!
*hangs his head in shame*

Soon, Christmas will be all year. If you decorate, you won't have to take down your stuff. I've noticed that some people leave their lights up all year. Think how convenient it will be for those who "celebrate the season."

*sigh* ... commercialism lives on ...

Dave, didn't you get your Instant War On Christmas Starter Pack (Just Add Water) yet? Mine came in the mail two weeks ago from Acme Dental Floss & Pasta (the front company the Evil Atheist Conspiracy is using this year).

Our big local garden shop put up their display trees at the end of AUGUST! They have Halloween supplies on clearance sale now...

There oughta be a law...? :)

They let you take pictures? I mean, you could have been casing the joint as part of the War on Christmas!

In my college days, I worked in a mall. It's not as glamorous as it sounds. Every year for four years, I noticed the Christmas decor sneaking up earlier and earlier.

When are people going to get up in arms about the War on Halloween? Or, even better, the War on Samhain?
