Endangered or Extinct? Doesn't Matter, It's Dinner Either Way.

This is one of those "good news/bad news" kind of stories. The good news is that a bird that many scientists thought was extinct was discovered alive in the Philippines recently. The bad news is that it was discovered in a poultry market, and has apparently since been sold and eaten.

Sadly, I'm not joking.

So, what is different from yesterday? There still aren't a lot of these guys- if any- in the wild. If there are so few that we thought they were extinct, they basically are extinct, and losing one more probably won't make a difference.

What can I say? We filipinos eat virtually anything that moves. Don't knock it till you tried monitor lizard meat.

I am reminded of a colleague from Florida telling of a fisherman friend who caught and ate the first noticed specimen of a then undescribed species of catfish. Fortunately there were enough left in the wild for a nice type series. Grin!
