Pusherwoman...with Apologies to Curtis Mayfield

I'm your mamma, I'm your daddy
I'm that farma in the alley
I'm your doctor, when in need
Want sweet taters? Have some nettle weed!
You know me, i'm your friend
Gotcher parsnips, thick and thin
I'm your pusherwoman,
I'm your pusherwoman.

haha

Ain't i clean, veggie queen
Super cool, super green
Feelin' good, for not the man
Onion chick, here i stand
Carrot stash, heavy bread

Baddest bitch in your garden bed!

I'm your pusherwoman
I'm your pusherwoman
I'm your pusherwoman

Solid life, on the farm
Gal of odd circumstance
A victim of agrarian dreams
Feed you my broccoli
And i'll let you trip for a while
On my apple pie
How long can a good thing last?
Keep 'em in cold storage
Got to be mellow, y'all
They'll stay mellow-crisp

I'm your pusherwoman.

Two bags please,
For a very small fee
I'll make your soup
What you want it to be.
Got a piece of dirt I love desperately
I want to make it the best it can be
I don't dig nothin' else
So I'm a hustler in spite of myself
I know that I can grow it,
In this life, you've got to know it,
Lord, lord, yeah!

I'm your pusherwoman!

I'm your mamma, I'm your daddy
I'm that farma in the alley
I'm your doctor, when in need
Want sweet taters? Have some nettle weed!
You know me, i'm your friend
Gotcher parsnips, thick and thin
I'm your pusherwoman,
I'm your pusherwoman.

Your pusherwoman fills you up!

That's me this time of year - I feel like I'm the pusherwoman. Here I am packing my root cellar, counting the jars, and my friends come and visit, and want to take something back from my place. Oh yeah, we've got stuff. Besides what's in the garden, there's what is in the farms around us.

Yes, baby, let's pick the last fall raspberries, you know you want to make some jam, they are so very sweet. C'mon, Sister, 50lbs of potatoes isn't really that much for a whole winter - you want the big bag, not the small one. Sure, it'll only take a few minutes to put that broccoli in the freezer. Grape juice? Sure, I know how to make that and the woods are filled with wild grapes. Cider syrup? Green tomato pickles? Its all just a dream...

There's something about this time of year that turns me into the pusher woman - the harvest is so rich and satisfying, I want to share it with everyone else! That's me out there, trying to get you to take home some squash!

Since I ripped off Curtis Mayfield, here's the original:

The jars are emptying out here. Despite the fact that it was an unbelievably awful gardening year, somehow the canning jars filled up all the same, to the point that we actually ran out of pint and smaller jars. Now, boxes and cabinets are filling up with emptied jars, put away until I begin…
Having posted what I'm making for Thanksgiving, I am happy to accede to your requests for the recipes. Of course, I encourage you to violate the recipes at well (since that's how I was taught to cook). I'm posting these in two batches, so if you don't see the recipe you were looking for here, it…
It is manifestly the case that I have never fully mastered keeping things from getting overwhelming, but I get better at it every year (mostly). And there is a lot you can do to make sure that the canning and preserving don't make you crazy! Despite the fact that you've got a life, a job, a family…
In college I lived in a house where I was the only female resident among a largish group of guys. Along with assorted boyfriends, girlfriends and hangers on, our house became a hang-out for a lot of people, and we regularly sat down with 15-20 people for dinner. Our food budgets, however, were…
