If you could have practiced science in any time and any place throughout history, which would it be, and why?...

Now. Of course.
Because we know more, we have a greater and more vibrant community than ever, we have more resources, tools and technology than ever.

I admit that it is tempting to contemplate life in Göttingen in the '20s, or in London in the late 17th century, or Athens with Socrates, but really? No.

Though I have to say, I expect it will be even better and more fun tomorrow.

I'm currently reading David Foster Wallace's Everything and More: A Brief History of ∞, because his recent death made me want to read some of his stuff, and I haven't read this (which turns up on best-science-books lists) before, so it seemed like a good way to go.
