Big Circadian Changes at UVA

One chronobiological pioneer is leaving and another one is coming in. Gene Block is going to UCLA and Joe Takahashi is leaving Northwestern (What are Fred Turek and others going to do there without him? What happens to the Howard Hughes institute?) and coming in to head the new Center for Circadian and Systems Biology. A very interesting game of musical chairs. Stay tuned.

The latest issue of Archives of Internal Medicine is devoted to sleep. The articles are freely available. Here is the press release:
In all animals, vertebrate and invertebrate alike, one of the defining features of sleep is the "rebound", i.e., the making up for sleep debt after an acute sleep deprivation event.
I don't normally blog on religion, but there has been an jump in foolish writing coming from the wacky end of the religious spectrum. On the top of the list are folks like Vox Day and Geisler and Turek (I Don't Have Enough FAITH to Be an ATHEIST).
The folks at Worldview Weekend are busily promoting the latest discovery of Noah's Ark.

That sucks!! I'm probably headed to NU next year for a Master's in Neurobiology and I was hoping to catch a glimpse of Takahashi. I was really interested in his work with Clock mutants and bipolar disorder.
Oh well, Turek is doing interesting stuff as well. I like his work on obesity.
