I'd be interested to see if there are any studies on the effect of political signs on name recognition and final voting behavior. I think it would be particularly interesting, in light of the sign-fest in your picture, to know at what sign density they reach their optimum effect and start to actually produce negative results, as in "Edwards, isn't he the one on my annoying neighbor's signs?"
I wonder how much recycled material is used to make all these signs....
