Stephen Colbert - comedian, anchorman, and bestselling author of the 'I Am America (And So Can You!)', - penned an Op-Ed for NYTimes columnist Maureen Dowd this week. He does a pretty ummm... 'comprehensive' job of discussing politics and the upcoming presidential election. Since we expect to be covering some of the same topics here as November 2008 approaches, I thought it best to point readers to his column for a, well, 'fresh' perspective. I'm still patiently waiting for some brave science blogger to post on the fact that Colbert has announced that he is running for president... (AP, Comedy Central) To hell with career politicians, voting for someone that knows he's a joke would be a nice change.
Now I haven't seen it, but wasn't that the plot of a Robin Williams flick last year?

Now back to Colbert.. I read Dowd's intro and his column. Although I find him usually overbearing, he is funny and right on target with alot of it. What a refreshing respite from the everyday PAIN that is inficted upon us by our "government".
I guess I should check the bi-line before commenting. Apologies to all.
I love Steven Colbert. His performance at the White House correspondence dinner was a masterwork of political satire. I find his pseudo-conservative persona a bit easier to digest than John Stewart's strident and preachy tone. Although, I also think Stewart is hysterical.
It will be interesting to see what happens to both of them should the dems sweep the next election. Of course maybe Colbert's campaign for president will take off and he will choose John Stewart as his running mate. Hey, we could do worse! (and have)
