All Global Warming is Local

As many of you folks know already, I give a lot of public talks. Generally, for each new presentation, I tinker with and add to (or subtract from) the material depending upon the circumstances. So while every presentation is very different, and while my various speeches are continually evolving and pulling in new information, it's relatively rare that I write an entirely new talk from scratch.

But I did write an entirely new presentation, entitled "All Global Warming is Local," when I gave the keynote address on November 3 at the San Diego Coastkeeper group's 12th Annual Ocean Gala. There were about four hundred people present; but because I want the speech to reach a broader audience, it has now been republished in its entirety on DeSmogBlog. Here's the question at the center of the speech:

...how can we best champion nature and the environment when both are changing due to global warming, and when we lack--or, worse, when our government denies us--adequate information about the nature of those changes and how to cope with them?

The full talk text is here. I hope you find it thought provoking.

What sensory cues do we rely on during the perception of speech? Primarily, of course, speech perception involves auditory cues - we pay close attention to the sounds generated by the speaker.
With the whole controversy around Michael Savage being blocked from entering England because of his inflammatory comments I thought
It's very nice of Obama to have occasionally acknowledged the existence of freethinkers in his speeches, but it doesn't mean much when his administration endorses blasphemy laws.
