Here's my first Spore critter, "Anomalonychus." I'll have more on the Spore Creature Creator (and why it's so damn fun to play with) soon;
More like this
I have several fun Real Science(TM) posts in the works... But today I got the new SPORE Creature Creator*... So I guess you all figured out where my evening went... LOL!
I made a SPORE ARNIE!!!!
Yes, I too was asked by EA games to install and test Spore. That is their hot new product.
What is this?
Wow!
I think that makes the game appear more interesting than I thought!
I've read a fair bit about it. Your critter is great.
Great Critter!
Sadly, I downloaded the Spore demo and it will only run on Leopard Macs not (my) Tigers and needs a serious recent chip set.
Also, I was hoping they would have a PSP version since they have a Nintendo DS one...
In your opinion, although posed as a game, is it a good (truthful) test bed for evolutionary principles?
Is there other (purely scientific) software out there that you recommend?
thx

I like him!
COOL! Looks like a ratite x giant ground sloth!
I couldn't get the demo to work! Installed but wouldn't run. Oh well...
@Mo Hassan
I downloaded and installed it as well, but it failed to put a shortcut in my program bar, or on my desktop. Go to your C drive, then EA folder, then if you search in the folders, you'll find a spore.exe file that will run the creature creator.
As for the evolution question, I dont see it as an effective tool for teaching evolution, but for the principle of adaptation in a niche, I think it'd be a great game. Nonetheless, getting people involved and excited about evolution, biology, morphology and adaptation is always a good thing.
Thanks friendly giant squid, although now it says my graphics card is out of date! Looks like I'll need a new computer then
