A first look at Creation

The Telegraph has just released the trailer for the forthcoming film adaptation of the book Annie's Box, which focuses on Charles Darwin's personal struggle with science and religion. It is called Creation;

What do you think?

[Hat-tip to Michael Barton for sending this along.]

More like this

"Teaching man his relatively small sphere in the creation, it also encourages him by its lessons of the unity of Nature and shows him that his power of comprehension allies him with the great intelligence over-reaching all." -Annie Jump Cannon
Penny commented that today is Annie Jump Cannon's birthday. I have long known of her as a famous astronomer but I did not know that she became deaf as an adult.

It's hard not to want to see a thoughtful movie starring Paul Bettany and Jennifer Connelly. Add to it the fact that it's about and intriguing real person like Darwin, and I can maybe ignore the cheesy attempt to cash in on controversy in the marketing. Hopefully, that will be less dominant a role in the movie and the more human story takes the lead.

Carl; I heard something about Annie's ghost being involved, too. I hope they mean "ghost" in a figurative sense, but with Hollywood you never know, especially with the involvement of Mel Gibson's Icon Productions. Just so long as there's no deathbed recantation scene...

I like that having played a fictitious predecessor of Darwin in Master and Commander; the Far Side of the World in the character of Maturin, Bettany is now more able to directly approach Darwin himself.

I am looking forward to it.
