I think she is correct. Capuchin monkeys regularly rub citrus fruits on their fur and this activity appears to keep them free of parasites and keep some of the biting insects away.

I saw this same thing when I was in Jaco, which is across Gulfo Dulce from Puntarenas (Corcovado is on Puntarenas). I saw one do something similar with the remains of a fruit I could not identify at a distance. One also kept trying to get into my backpack which I locked for that specific reason.
