Thanks to everyone who had a go at guessing the identity of the mystery stuffed carnivoran. I am pleased, I suppose, to say that NOBODY GOT IT RIGHT, but some of you did come close.

Here's a link to the portrait of this wolf, by the great (one of the greatest) wildlife artist Louis Agassiz Fuertes, at the peak of his skill. It's a beautiful picture. I had never seen video before, and it's clear that Fuertes captured some of their personality.

No wonder, it is very important to keep an eye on those animals
I am struck by the apparent blend of traits: these canids have the pack organization of wolves but the physique, color, and predatory styles of coyotes.
