A measure of job security

Well I'm kind of miffed. The teaching postdoc I really wanted decided that I'm not in the first round of interviews, which makes me sad. They really have their shit together and do a thorough job of preparing profs. Oh well. Maybe they'll need to dip into tier 2 of their applicant pool.

In other, better news, the local community college needs a Gen Bio prof for the summer, so I'll at least get some good teaching experience doing that. They also have fall positions, which is good; it keeps me in academia at least part time. I'm hoping that will round out my CV enough to nab that primo SLAC spot when it opens up. If it opens up.

God I hate this.

Wow, that really sucks. It's easy to say that it's a learning experience or that you'll get the next one, but that really doesn't make up for it, does it.. I do hope that it works for you, though. Sooner or later I'm (hopefully!) going to find myself in your position, so I'm rooting for you!

Oy, it brings back all my nightmares from academia. I decided to get the MD along with the PhD because my college adviser told me I'd have better access to grant money. That never happened, my research career crashed, and soon I found that the MD had a better use: job security. And now I'm a doc in solo private practice. Growing up, that's the last thing I ever thought I would be.
