Well, the Japanese whaling fleet has left port to go slaughter some whales. This is bad policy for several reasons.
So Iceland is back at it, joining Norway and Japan in the atavistic habit of killing whales. I find it interesting that this subject is so often framed as a scientific one, evidenced by the number of posts on the subject my fellow SciBloggers.
Looks like we won't be needing a team of aging, time-traveling Starfleet officers to save the humpbacks after all.
In addition to cruelty, the replacement of whale products, meat toxicity issues, and conservation, fellow SciBling the Island of Doubt brings up another great point against whaling:

Good, they should give them a few lashings just like the in the good old days.
