Mostly Mute Monday: The Galactic Plane (Synopsis)

“The Milky Way is nothing else but a mass of innumerable stars planted together in clusters.” -Galileo Galilei

It is, in fact, almost exactly as Galileo said.

Galileo missed a few things, though, including a plethora of unclustered stars, dust, nebulae and star-forming regions as well.

“The fact that we live at the bottom of a deep gravity well, on the surface of a gas covered planet going around a nuclear fireball 90 million miles away and think this to be normal is obviously some indication of how skewed our perspective tends to be.” -Douglas Adams

I'm trying to find out where is our solar system in the galactic plane wright now on this date (16 may 2015) are we in the middle of it or getting out or going in ? It seems that I can't find the answer. If I'm not wrong we began our journey thrue the galactic plane on the 21 dec 2012 and that from estimates it should last between 7 to 10 years. I would like to have your opinion on that matter.
Thanks very much and have a nice day
