Chris Smither did a show last night as part of the Upper Merion Concert Under the Stars series. If you aren't familiar with Chris Smither's music, you should be. He's great. The pictures I took of him on stage all came out crappy but I like this one I caught of him just before the show. His feet are mic'd during his performance and if you listened with your eyes shut, you'd swear he was accompanied by someone on percussion. There's a debate going on among my Sciblings about atheism: is it or is it not a civil rights issue? You may recall that Senator Sam Brownback, erstwhile Presidential candidate, recently wrote a NYTimes op-ed expounding on his raising of the arm during a presidential debate in response to the now-infamous "who doesn't believe in evolution" question. I'm grateful to Page 3.14 for alerting me to Jerry Coyne's article Don't Know Much Biology written in response to Senator Sam Brownback. Yay! Finally! The good guys - that's us - are finally getting their/our own Discovery Institute! Only ours will actually promote real science and science policy as opposed to God-told-me-so science and science policy.
