We've brought you some of Igor Siwanowicz's incredible work in the past (Round I and Round II) but wanted to share some of his newer photos. Please visit his site and hire him to do the photos for your daughter's bat mitzvah or something... A whole series demonstrating Igor's outstanding head shots below the fold... If any of our more entomologically inclined readers want to chime in and attach names to these adorable mugs, please do so and we'll credit you.

It's barely Friday, but I need to put today's PotD up early since I'm literally about to leave for North Carolina. I shouldn't be seeing any sunrise for a few hours yet, but I'm sure I'll see all the bars letting out as I pass through New Brunswick on the way to the Turnpike.

I know most of you have seen this one before, but it's still one of my favorites. It was taken during sunrise on July 15th, 2007 at Cape May, NJ, and there were a number of large, expired cnidarians floating around in the surf. I have no idea what species this is, but it did make for a beautiful photograph.

This image was taken on a Florida trip a couple years ago when a Black-bellied Plover walked up to him while he was sitting on a beach. Luckily, he had his 180 lens on and was able to get this shot. The endangered Grevy's zebra (Equus grevyi) is the largest species of zebra, and while it hasn't undergone the same level of taxonomic reshuffling that its relative the plains zebra Equus quagga) has, it still has been difficult to place at times. According to the IUCN page for Grevy's zebra, this horse is largely suffering from competition with people, overgrazing by livestock being one of the primary reasons this species is in decline. As far as is currently known Grevy'z zebra do not appear to be increasing in number and populations will likely continue to shrink. The individual pictured…

This is Leo, a snow leopard (Panthera uncia) at the Bronx zoo that was taken in by the zoo recently. Leo was orphaned at a very young age, too young to fend for himself in the wild, and with cooperation from officials in Pakistan was transferred to the Bronx zoo for care. The zoo has so much success with snow leopards that a new snow leopard habitat is being constructed at the Central Park zoo, set to open in the spring of 2009.

tags: photography, Lincoln Center, NYC, NYCLife As you have probably guessed, looking at my pictures, I really love night photography, and NYC is so photogenic by night, too. But I still have not managed to translate the image that I see in my mind into an image that you can see on my blog, but I am experimenting with my camera in the hope that one day, I shall finally capture that exquisite picture to share with all of you.
