Tom Delay explains how prosecuting him for breaking campaign finance laws is… well, let's let him explain:

"Criminalization of politics" is an interesting phrase for all sorts of reasons, but his using that phrase in almost the same breath that he compares his plight to that of being a non-Aryan in Germany in the 30s and 40s indicates a sort of blindness that is, as I think you're implying, a clear sign that DeLay has not exactly engaged in much soul-searching during his time away.
Tangential anecdote from this past weekend: My uncle, who lives in Houston and is a dyed-in-the-wool Texas Republican if there ever was one, was telling me that it's clear to him that DeLay's style of politics has just about single-handedly wrecked the party in Texas . . . and hasn't done many favors for the national party, either. He actually held his nose (his phrase) and voted for Kerry. He likes what he's seen and heard of Bill Richardson for the '08 election, but is attracted to Obama's rhetoric. In the meantime, he pines for the second coming of Barry Goldwater.
Bringing up Tom Delay's name is like mentioning the bubonic plague. It was really bad when it was around, but you don't think to worry about it anymore.
