Domestic terrorist kills Wichita gynecologist

The Wichita Eagle reports that George Tiller was shot and killed:

George Tiller, the Wichita doctor who became a national lightning rod in the debate over abortion, was shot to death this morning as he walked into church services.

Tiller is one of the few doctors in the country who offered third trimester abortions, and did so in a city that rekindled the anti-abortion movement in the '90s. His clinic was the subject of numerous attacks, including a shooting which wounded him in 1993.

Tiller also worked through his political action committee to ensure that women had access to lifesaving medical treatment. ProKanDo is a powerful force in Kansas politics, and while he had many political opponents, no one could dispute his sincere desire to help women.

The person who did this is a terrorist. His or her goal is to scare other doctors and prevent them from performing legal medical procedures, and from advocating for their patients' needs. Political disagreement is fine, but no one should resort to violence. This act of terrorism deserves swift justice.

A year ago today, George Tiller was murdered in cold blood. Tiller was a Wichita OB/GYN known for being one of the few doctors who would perform third trimester abortions.

This terrorist is part of a larger terrorist network, the anti choice movement. Anti abortion organizations must by investigated and prosecuted for this crime.

... in a city that rekindled the anti-abortion movement in the '90s.

In defense of Wichita, most of the anti-choicers who made such sexists asses of themselves during the "Summer of Life" were from out of town. At least one of the churches which had agreed to host them finally got fed up and threw them out.

... no one could dispute his sincere desire to help women.

No one with any respect for the facts could dispute that - but a very large portion of the anti-abortion movement did, and does, and will.
