It's really anybody's guess what the future holds for us. Personally, I feel that it's rather pompous to imagine that humanity is capable of wiping out life on earth, or for that matter, preventing a wipe-out of life on earth. Mother nature has witnessed violent upheavels and cataclysmic events of magnitudes greater than we can imagine. I think it's conceited to assume that our species is so significant that we'll be the ones that make the phenomenon of life go kaput.
