In Memory of Isis the Dog

Yesterday Dr. Isis informed the world that, unfortunately, Isis the Dog passed away. A sad day in the life of any pet owner, I imagine it is especially troubling for Little Isis.

Being the proprietor of the SB home for all things animal and thoughtful, I asked the goddess if I could construct a blog memorial for him, and so I have.

R. I. P. He was a handsome dog. Any ideas as to his breed?

I am so sorry. It sucks to lose your dog. We had to put our sweet dog to sleep two years ago, and although we have another dog, of the same breed, who cracks us up and provides great companionship (we are basset hound people), we still miss our sweet old Miss Ali.

Dr. Isis is probably not a big Kipling fan, what with the racism and all, but he did write a poem about the death of your dog that is very descriptive.

It's not a JRT, but the sentiment is the same:

My sincerest condolences, exalted Dr. Isis. The beagle snuggled up at my feet suggests this memorial poem, from one of her (and my) favorite poets, ever. I don't know where the beagle learned to appreciate Spanish...I'm certainly quite poor at it. But Neruda makes me cry, always:

To follow up, I'm an atheist. But the longer I work with animals, especially dogs and cats, the more I believe that if there were a supreme being, a truly wise and just God would never choose to waste eternal happiness and afterlife on us.

Sadness :(

Always hard to lose a dog. You can of course never replace any one of them, but it's damn near impossible not to eventually open your home to another one. There's always one out there looking for a family to cozy up to :)

I'm so sorry. I just lost my dear cat who I'd had for 18 years, and I know it hurts so much to lose a treasured animal companion. Pets become as much a member of the family as a child or sibling, and when loved, they offer in return a love that is unconditional. It hurts so much to lose them.

Thanks to all of you, and especially Jason, for this lovely lilttle tribute. My little Jack Russell was an evil little thing, but he tried his best to be a good dog. We'll miss him a lot around the Isis house.
