Ahhhh, j'aime D.C. I wish I could join you at the Pharmacy Bar for a medicinal one. (Nice to have met you in NY, at least.) When I'm in D.C. I always like to hit Gordon Biersch -- I know it's a chain, but they do it well and they have great beer.

And, yes, "aptyeka" (аптека) is also Russian for "pharmacy". Not surprising -- Latvian (a Baltic language) and Russian (a Slavic language) are fairly closely related.

Do they have Jameson? That may be the only way to get a certain wackaloon Scibling there in November. Clear your drinking schedule!

I don't know, DM, but it's in Adams Morgan. If by some bizarre chance they don't have Jameson, there are at least three dozen other places serving liquor within a 60-second stagger. . . .

"Krogs" is Latvian for "bar", so it can't be a coincidence.

Incidentally, Latvian and Russian are not really closely related, although Latvian has been influenced by Russian a great deal (many Latvian words derive from Russian). "Aptieka", however, is far more likely to have been acquired from German ("Apotheke").

This TOTALLY rocks! Now THAT is what pharmacy is all about.

I've walked back Science Club during study section awhile back but have yet to experience the Pharmacy Bar.
