Humans have an ability to recognize patterns, even if they're not really there, like the face of Jesus in a pizza or Elvis on the side of a Holstein. Apparently, a local lumberjack recognized something in a certain tree trunk and decided to flip it upside down and paint it blue in order to help passersby see the illusion. This little bit of "found art" is located less than two miles from my house and I had a good laugh when I first saw it:
Jesus on a pizza it ain't, but it sure is entertaining nonetheless.

while back, I posted a picture of this area's most expensive Pizza,
from Pizza
House in Ann Arbor. That one was only about $25.
Today the soccer team I coach (on which the younger Free-Ride offspring is a player) had its last game of the spring season.
"Yay! Trophies!!" screamed the players at the end of the game. So, off we all went to the traditional end-of-season pizza party and trophy distribution event.
This week's Ask a Scienceblogger inquires about our other research interests:
Assuming that time and money were not obstacles, what area of scientific research, outside of your own discipline, would you most like to explore? Why?...
In honor of Pi Day, Greta is baking one of our favorite Chicago-style pizzas. This is our reconstruction of the pizza we ate as undergraduates at the University of Chicago.
I for one welcome our blue pants overlords.
It's all in the jeans.. I mean genes...
I'm pretty sure I've seen a whole page of suggestive nature pictures somewhere, but probably won't be able to find it. Meanwhile, here's a picture I took several years ago of some trees posed rather suggestively.

Many years ago a friend of mine was in the habit of drawing a certain little cartoon character that he had come up with. He drew them for me a few times, they were way cool and he wove a neat story around them. It is the kind of a memory that has a cocklebur shell. I've never been able to shake it.
Many years later, I am exploring the banks of a creek in Wyoming, and pretending to fish, when I come upon a piece of driftwood that is preCISEly like my friends cartoon. It is a very big deal, to me, but it is not to the population of the planet minus one or two.
I am perfectly content and feel quite fully informed by taking the view that such a piece of wood would exist had I never met my friend.
I just have one question about the picture of the . . . err . . . crotch. Am I looking at the actual jeans of Jesus, or are the genes of Jesus in these pants?
and I get away with wood would. bonus.
