Basically, it is a one-chip solution. Not entirely, the
server runs on one chip and there are a couple of memory chips to

Why would you want to install Ubuntu as a "server" rather than as a desktop? The simple answer is: If you need to ask, you don't want to do it.
You all know about the honey bee waggle dance. A bee finds some nectar, returns to the hive, does a dance that communicates information about where the nectar can be found to other bees, and off the workers go to get the nectar.
We are hoping that the infuriating failure of the Scienceblogs servers to keep up with traffic leading to submission timeouts (just as aggravating for bloggers as commenters) will be cured by a server upgrade which is to begin shortly. We have just been informed by our Seed Overlords (a.k.a.
Tom Vanderbilt has a fascinating article on the infrastructure of data centers, those server farms that make Google, Facebook and World of Warcraft possible.
Let's just say I've seen worse.
