What If You Can't Afford an Hypoallergenic Cat?

is a
hot commodity right now.  The company claims a 15-month
waiting list for the $4,000 pets.  They supposedly have many
virtues:

An
ALLERCA GD cat's personality is very sweet and
affectionate, thanks in part to our unique socialization program.
Customer who now own GD cats report that they make great
family pets and are wonderful with children.

stands for "genetic divergence," in case
you were wondering.
Their breeding program is said to make use of harmless
genetic divergences that are naturally present in cats.

Time Magazine is impressed.  They named the

hypoallergenic cat one of the top inventions for 2006.
It's in their Tech Guide, under the category for Medicine.
(I guess 2006 was not a good year for the pharmaceutical
industry.)

Four thousand dollars is a lot for a cat.  Now, thanks to
Target.com, there is a href="http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html/602-7072232-0057413?asin=B000GLP2SS&AFID=Froogle&LNM=B000GLP2SS%7CStar_Wars_Princess_Leia_Pet_Costume&nAID=14110944&ref=tgt_adv_XSG10001">low-priced
alternative:

It is
based on the scientific principle, that it is impossible to sneeze when
you are rolling on the floor, laughing.

Allerca along with its sister company LifeStyle Pets both appear to be a scam. The only cat to ever be seen in public was shown by a PR person posing as a mother of two allergic children with a cat that could have simply been shampooed a few times before the show. Before getting suckered into sending this company thousands of dollars for a cat that may not even exist I would suggest one Google the words Allerca, Scam and Brodie.
