Nikhil Rao To Speak to the Alliance For Science

For my Virginia based readers, Nikhil Rao, founder of the group Conservatives Against Intelligent Design, will be speaking to the Alliance for Science tomorrow, April 24. The talk will be held at the Arlington Central Library, 1015 N. Quincy Street in Arlington, VA. More information is available here.

Conservatives Against Intelligent Design? Sounds like an oxymoron to me! Guess I better go check it out...

This is the first in a series discussing things that librarians do.  Stephanie Willen Brown pointed me to this hilarious video from UT Arlington.
"O.K., let's slowly lower in the grant money."
Naw. This is more likely a case of an older person flushing some old prescription drugs down the toilet:
Austen Williams, who identifies herself as Mrs. Arlington, Mrs. Texas, is bothered that she was taught evolution "dogmatically." She has a "burning desire to know." "I just want to learn things."

Their point 2: "How we can make evolution palatable ot religious conservatives by clarifying the difference between metaphysical and scientific knowledge."
Palatable does not seem to be a good choice of word, but this would be effective against ID inconservative circles.

One way to make support of scientific knowledge more widespread is for the militant atheists like Prof Rosenhouse and Prof. Moran, and Prof. Myers to stop claiming that philosophical naturalism is science and that therefore science = atheism and to stop labeling atheists who deny this equality as Chamberlainists. This claim, which is the same claim promulgated by the clowns at the Discovery Institute, adds nothing to the discussion and only plays into the hands of the opposition.
