One of the nice things about summer vacation is the chance to visit beautiful and scenic locales. Like Bowling Green, Kentucky. That is the home of Western Kentucky University, which in turn is hosting the 22nd Annual Cumberland Conference on Graph Theory, Combinatorics and Computing. Figured I'd drop in, give a talk, see some old friends, and do some serious hanging out. Sadly, this means I will be out of town for the rest of the week and therefore will not be blogging. Regular blogging will resume upon my return.
Who knows? Since I'm going to be in-state I just might stop off at my favorite museum...

If you do go to your favorite museum, make it a point to also visit Big Bone Lick SP ("the birthplace of American paleontology"). It is about 15 miles away. AND Big Bone Lick is just down the road from Beaver Lick. All of which is not far from Sugartit.
If you visit the museum, be sure to share the picks. It's always interesting to see what's going on in their exibit halls.

I did stop off at the museum. Sadly, I hads forgotten to charge my camera battery. Aaaargh! As it happens, though, I have extensive photos from a previous visit.

Yes, they've got the tubes in Kentucky. (That's how I'm writing this after all!) But this is partly a working trip and after listening to math talks all day I'm generally not up for heavy blogging. Pretending to be interested is hard work! (Well, OK, some of the talks were generally intersting...)

I think I saw that sign! Believe me, certain parts of Kentucky get you thinking that the sign is right.
I'm reminded of Woody Allen's line that he believes there is a higher power in the universe except in certain parts of New Jersey.
AARGH! I was in Cumberland Gap National Historic Park all last week or we could've met (I live near there). Damn!

That billboard is actually pretty close to Bowling Green (or at least on the way from Bowling Green to Lexington, about halfway). I remember passing it on my weekly trips to and from there. It s on the other side of the highway from a pretty conspicuous adult bookstore. Kind of funny,if that s the right word, but also quite sad.... You also get to pass billboards with the Ten Commandments and one that states "Jesus died for your sins". I can t wait to move away from this ultra-theistic backwater.
