The Pip is in a big superhero phase at the moment, and all of his games revolve around being a superhero of some sort. He has also basically memorized a couple of 30-page Justice League books, after demanding them over and over at bedtime.
By now, many of you have probably seen the the new BLAST web interface at the NCBI. There are many good things that I can say about it, but there are a few others that caught me by surprise during my last couple of classes.
Yesterday Huxley and I were out on the porch checking out the incoming thunderheads. Then we heard thunder. Huxley immediately ran over to the door and pulled it shut.
"We don't want thunder going in the house."
Good idea. Who knows what it would do in there.

If the scientific community had been paying attention back then, perhaps we'd have laid the groundwork for a strong and immediate response to the nonsense the climate denialists started bringing up. Instead, it seems climate scientists were caught unawares and just ignored it till it moved into the political arena.
