Johnny Winter Plays His Last Riff

I used to secretly like Johnny Winter and his brother. Secretly because they (and Rick Derringer IIRC) were all idolize by my friends and I tended to avoid going along with what everybody else did or thought. But I did manage to get to all the concerts invovolving any of the above.

Anyway, Johnny Winter has died, apparently.

More like this

Remember how David Bellamy claimed that his TV career was ended (something that happened in 1994) because of an article he wrote in 2004? Now
As I went to bed this evening, I turned on the TV to watch a little bit before I fell asleep and found out that Johnny Carson had died. I could not turn it off, as I watched clips of his shows and reminiscences from his friends. And I felt compelled to write something.
According to the Centers for Disease Control, some 3,600 people drowned in 2005, the most recent year for which there are statistics.
Hey, you remember last fall when Stephen '1985' Meyer came to OU? And I went to see him, not Johnny Wells, so Wells threw an epic tantrum?

I was and stayed a big Johnny Winter fan. I enjoyed his blues much more than his rock and roll. He was just here in Kalamazoo a few weeks ago and family issues had me away at the time.

Side note on Rick Derringer: apparently he has turned into a major born again christian. I think he's still performing: wonder if he still plays "Rock and Roll Hootchie Koo"?

I worked at a stadium where Johnny played, and he was pretty cool. A friend described him as "Elric with tattoos & a guitar." I was always more interested in his brother's music though. Frankenstein is on my list of groovy morning pick-me-up music.
