Tiger

Siberian, or Amur, tiger, Panthera tigris altaica.

The photographer writes; Zeff, a 13 year-old female Amur tiger kept at Tiger Mountain [at the Bronx Zoo]. She may look like she's snarling, but this was actually the end of a yawn.

As long as you send images to me (and I hope it will be for forever), I shall continue to share them with my readership. My purpose for posting these images is to remind all of us of the grandeur of the natural world and that there is a world out there that is populated by millions of unique species. We are a part of this world whether we like it or not: we have a choice to either preserve these species or to destroy them in search of short-term monetary gains. But if we decide to destroy these other life forms, the least we can do is to know what we are destroying by learning that they exist. If you have a high-resolution digitized nature image (I prefer JPG format) that you'd like to share with your fellow readers, feel free to email it to me, along with information about the image and how you'd like it to be credited.

Sorry, that's just the first thing I thought of when I saw that picture. I like cats, especially big ones.

And I'd like to thank you for that. I love to visit this site to see the great photos.

Sorry, I draw the line at cats too big for my lap.

They are quite the "masterpiece" even thru the lens of a camera. Thanks for the sharing Hedwig!! And Brian - I went to see you're other snow leopards pics, Great shots also...

Thanks for the compliments Diane. The big cats at the zoo are among the most fun creatures to photograph. This particular tiger was very active and calling to another tiger named Sasha in the next enclosure, giving me lots of opportunities for good shots, so I'll probably throw up some more pictures of Zeff later on today. Thanks again :)
