This wierdly humorous piece by an Australian comedy team, Clarke and Dawe, is something akin to a Monty Python sketch. It is funny despite the subject matter. [2:01]

Every year about this time, we start thinking about an exciting television event:
I'm traveling today, so I'm posting something I wrote along time ago instead of offering anything new. This one's from the blogs early days, so I really hadn't gotten used to this blogging thing when I wrote it.

Ok ok... they do have a sense of humor but...

These guys, in particular John Clarke (who always plays the politician in dry deadpan style without the slightest attempt to imitate), are national treasures. In Clarke's case, in two countries - he's also a national treasure in his native New Zealand.

If you can, see if you can rent a copy of The Olympics in which he plays the CEO of the Australian Olympic COmmittee in the runup to the Sydney Olympics. It's satire and humour on a Fawlty Towers scale.

I like the bit about the ship being towed "outside the environment." That sounds like the sort of argument one might very well here from government officials here in the United States these days.

Thanks for posting this video, very funny.

FYI - the hilarious TV series about the Sydney Olympics was titled "The Games". It was from the Australian Broadcasting Corporation and was also shown by some PBS stations in the USA.
