Okay, I know that some of you overindulged last night, especially since we are finally shedding GW like an abusive lover, so I was wondering what your favorite hangover remedy is? Can you share it with your fellow readers?

...there is a very colorful discussion thread of hangover remedies over at the WSJ Health Blog.
Joan Acocella has an interesting article on the science of hangovers:
I went to medical school in the days when controls on human experimentation were not very robust (I understate).
How was your New Year's celebration last night?

My trick was just to drink water a little while before bed, not even a lot of water just enough to keep me from getting dehydrated.
The few times I forgot to do this and got really hungover, didn't really have a remedy. Just took it easy, lounging around etc. I tried taking an energy drink once while hungover but it made me sick as hell.
The hydration thing is important -- partway through the evening I start refilling my glass with water once for each glass of stronger stuff -- that helps a lot. I still have an upset stomach this morning, but no headache, even after various glasses of bubbly, a lot of red wine, and a bit of a home-distilled plum-based eau-de-vie that showed up at the end of the night.
And of course, just reasonable drinking in the first place -- if you're already feeling a bit wobbly, don't empty your glass yet ('cause it will be refilled...). The water trick above is also useful, because if you have a full glass in hand you're less likely to have a fresh one handed to you.
I should also mention -- it's true that going for a good long run is a pretty solid hangover cure... I'm guessing it works by getting your body functioning and sweating it out, more or less (obviously this needs to go along with good rehydration!).
..but getting started is hard enough that I rarely have the guts to try it.
I've found that large doses of homeopathic remedies work really well for hangovers.
It took me a second, but then Bob O'H's suggestion made me laugh. Indeed, it doesn't even matter which remedy, eh?
Mine, finely honed in my youth: drink a big glass of water before going to bed. Then when I wake up to go in the night, another glass of water with a couple ibuprofin or aspirin. Repeat as needed in the morning.
Amen to the calls for blessed water, but second on the list should be foods rich in water-soluble vitamins, particularly the B complex.
Where do you think Popeye's constant craving for spinach came from?
actually, my remedy is the same as bardiac's. however, my second favorite remedy is to not even start drinking in the first place. last night, i compromised: i had a little to drink, but i was at home, watching christmas programs on DVD all night long.
Taught to me by a professor of urology at Johns Hopkins Medical School:
With every drink, lick salt and suck lime slices. EVERY drink, not just tequila and Corona. The electrolyte overload somehow over-rides the inhibition of anti-diuretic hormone, so you don't get dehydrated.
By a stroke of good fortune, after hearing this great man's seminar, I was invited to a cousin's wedding where there was an open bar, so I tested his recommendation very thoroughly. It really, really works. Still best to stick with vodka though, as other ferments tend to have the nausea-inducing concoctions--you won't have a headache or muscle aches, but your stomach won't be happy if your liver is trying to cope with the non-EtOH alcohols.
The best hangover cure is another couple fucking drinks.
It's very simple: don't stop drinking.
Water before going to bed, then toast and Marmite with my coffee in the morning. (Or afternoon, if it was a particularly good night.)
I'm rather partial to Bob O'H's sugestion. But it has to be dissolved in something alcoholic. If that doesn't work, try Comrade PhysioProf's remedy. =^..^=
Have children - you seldom get the chance to drink more than a pint (if that). Of course, when you do drink more than a pint, you quickly fall over and have a dreadful hangover afterwards.
Serious 'cures'. Lots of water before you sleep, some asprin if you can, and try not to drink anything too dark or heavy (and never mix). Bacon sandwich (full fry-up if you can face it), OJ or flat Coke. 'Resolve' helps...and of course time.
My recipe: excendrin, tums, and grease. I wouldn't recommend that anyone submit themselves to this often, but it does work for me.
Shower and a good tooth-brushing can help, too.
I will either have a gatorade or an On Go Energy shot. Something about the electrolytes in both of these help me revive faster than just drinking water.
2 or 3 Gin & Tonics (must contain quinine) with freshly squeezed lemon (lime if no lemons around) juice.
If the hangover is really bad forgo the Gin in the above, evacuate bladder and then return to bed.
I must admit that this New Year I followed Grrl's method, had to be up for work on the 1st :o(
My cure - don't drink in the first place. My wife and I went out for a nice dinner, came home, watched movies , fell asleep. Drank iced tea (me), Coca Cola (her), water (both of us). Still managed to have a really great New Years Eve.
This sounds weird but works every time. I jerk off. Yeah just jerk it. And I feel a lot better than if I don't.
