I've seen a lot of examples of animal training in my lifetime, but this certainly is one of the best because it involves not one or two animals, but a small flock .. and each bird is doing just what he or she should be doing .. amazing! [5:31]

Remember earlier this week when we were discussing some of the positions people might hold with respect to the use of animals in research?
Today at the University of California at Los Angeles, a rally is planned to raise awareness about the value of responsible animal research and to denounce acts of terrorism toward animal researchers and their families.
Many of my ScienceBloglings have rightly called out animal rights terrorists who target researchers' children. They are absolutely right to do so.
Yesterday, as part of ongoing follow up on my story in this week's New York Times Magazine, I posted about

That was very impressive! I had no idea that budgies could be trained as a group; and yes, they are certainly cute!

The routine reminded me of presentations I remember seeing on old variety shows such as Ed Sullivan's. Trained animal acts are rather rare these days.

Budgies are my favourite pet - intelligent, loyal, affectionate, sociable, playful, inquisitive and adventurous. Never get one but at least 3. They are very attached to one another as a couple (like husband and wife) and one may die of grief when the other is gone or dead.
This is certainly my favourite video. The best of budgies so far!
