Cedar Waxwing. Brown body, black mask, lack of wingbars, and the yellow-dipped tail.
Yeah, cedar waxwing, for the reasons given by Lia. Makes a nice contrast with the recent Bohemian. Since Bohemians don't live around me, I've always kind of ignored the differences between them. Now, though, I'll know which is which the next time I'm up Bohemian-way.
bohemian waxwings might occasionally turn up in your part of the country, john, so it is best to learn what they look like -- rare bird alerts happen to those with keen, discerning and well-trained eyes. i remember the first time i saw a bohemian waxwing hanging around with a group of cedar waxwings in seattle .. at first no one believed me, until they went out and looked for themselves and found the bird. this was very satisfying to me.
Yes, cedar waxwing, field marks as others have noted.
One I know, yay!
Beautiful, beautiful Cedar Waxwing. I attract them with baked sweet potatoes.
