I never really liked the many incarnations of Star Trek on television. I remember the episode of the Next Generation where the crew was devolving, but that's about it. That's why I was a little unsure of whether I would enjoy the big screen reboot of the franchise. After just seeing it, though, I have to say I was very impressed. The film really fulfilled the potential the series carried while honoring the source material. There are a few other science fiction extravaganzas I plan on seeing this summer (i.e. Terminator: Salvation and Transformers 2), but it is going to be hard to beat Star Trek.
More like this
“An ancestor of mine maintained that when you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth.” -Mr. Spock, Star Trek
“‘Star Trek’ says that it has not all happened, it has not all been discovered, that tomorrow can be as challenging and adventurous as any time man has ever lived.” –Gene Roddenberry

A few days back, I happened to watch a few scenes of an old Star Trek episode. There was the usual fare of beam-me-ups, tea materializer, mother levitator, etc. And then there was the Matter Displacement Detector. That piqued my interest.
The reincarnations were all meh. There's only one incarnation worth the franchise name. Looking forward to seeing the flick.
I still say that trailer looks like an athletic shoe ad.
And, well, this year I've seen Watchmen and Coraline, so now I'm broke. Call me when it comes out on BitTorrent. . . .
Saw it yesterday. IT ROCKED.
I agree, I saw the movie this weekend, and it was TOTALLY WICKED!!!! Well worth the money to see in IMAX, btw. I did, however, think they did a BIT too much pandering to the audience. It would have been great, if only they'd done with without Leonard Nimoy, or have done no references, and had Leonard. Both was too much. Let me state for the record, though, that I LOVE Spock.
I can't wait to see this movie! I wanted to go on opening night, but we were en route to a camping trip. Now we're home, and I hope to see it ASAP.
