...the coelacanth is already being sequenced by the Broad Institute. I do like the idea of getting people excited about genomics and getting public input.
Update: Don't ask me about progress; I don't know precisely. But a genome will be produced.

Genome size can be measured in a variety of ways. Classically, the haploid content of a genome was measured in picograms and represented as the C-value.
I just read about the discovery of this beastie. Quite a story. It's sequencing should provide a lot of information for the 'tree'.
