These sites are completely fake, but they're fascinating anyway.

Phil sent me a link to the Museum of Fantastic Specimens, a bizarre collection of strange creatures. It's all in Japanese, but Pink Tentacle has a brief guide in English.

Several people let me know about this one: if you prefer your fake organisms to be the product of fake synthetic processes rather than fake natural ones, you want a GenPet.

“Some people think that the truth can be hidden with a little cover-up and decoration. But as time goes by, what is true is revealed, and what is fake fades away.” -Ismail Haniyeh
I'm finding it rather amusing that so many blogs, particularly of the conservative variety, are making a huge deal out of Mark Steyn's article in the Chicago Sun-Times about a fake Jefferson quote.
The news broke this weekend about the unholy alliance of Elsevier and Merck to publish a fake medical journal. You can read the details from the links at the bottom of this page. We all agree that creating deceptive, fake medical information is a "bad thing".
I'm completely confused. We've got a parody site parodying a law about parodies — no one will ever be able to keep them straight.
Fake??? The one with all the arms looks just like my lazy teenage son. :-)
Does one have to fake an orgasm to get one?
What a nightmarish life for the poor little one.. reminds me of Saturday Night Live's "Bathroom Monkey".
I spent a couple of hours browsing through the 'Museum of Fantastic Specimens' yesterday. I'd love to have some of those things, to the extent where I ordered what I believe to be 2 of the artist's books from Amazon.jp. Not reading Japanese makes it a bit of a crap shoot, but it will give me incentive to bike more and pay less in parking fees.
So, thanks, PZ for passing that one along.
