Return of Franken!

Happy news for Stevens County: Senate Candidate Al Franken will be speaking in Morris this Thursday (Oct. 11) at 7:00 in the Science Auditorium on the UMM campus, in a talk is sponsored by the UMM College Democrats. No charge, open to the public, everyone should come.

I'll be there!

More like this

$10 says that you'll be able to find at least one Republican protester who thinks that Mr. Franken is unfit for office because Mr. Franken is an actor/comedian, but also thinks that the Constitution should be amended so that 'Ah-nold' can run for President.

Hey, whatever happened to Davis, anyway?

K. Engels:

The constitution should be amended to allow Ah-nold and any other American citizen irrespective of place of birth to run for president.

you mean Gray Davis?

good question. looks like he pretty much retired from public life and joined a law firm.

do you blame him?

And that is a very wide two way street of hypocrisy. $10 says there are plenty of Franken supporters who have taken shots over the years at Reagan and Arnold for being actors.

*shrug* Come from a background of sexing chickens for all I care. Just try to demonstrate on the campaign trail that you have a consistent and coherent vision for what you plan to accomplish in office.

any other night and I'd be there. To see Franken AND visit my oldest daughter (UMM '09) would be worth the trip. However, her two younger sisters have a swim meet I will be attending.

$10 says there are plenty of Franken supporters who have taken shots over the years at Reagan and Arnold for being actors.

indeed, but perhaps not for the reasons you think.

in fact there are a lot of Franken supporters who are supporters for the more subtle point of making fun of how often actors are wooed by partisan money to run for office.

Arnold being a great case on point.

exactly the opposite in Franken's case, who actually runs mostly to mock the system itself.

Franken's "platform" has essentially evolved out of studying the political process long enough to clearly be able to see and voice the very hypocrisy you wish to point out, and finally want to be able to at least try to do something about it other than just make it a source of good humor.

as a general point though, a lawyer can be just as ignorant as an actor, and DC is full of ignorant lawyers.

Franken is on the right side of most issues, but let's not forget that he criticized Jesse Ventura for his comments about organized religion being a crutch. Franken seems at the least to believe in belief.

Senate Candidate Al Franken will be speaking in Morris this Thursday...

Because he's good enough... he's smart enough... and gosh darn it, people like him!!!

#8: While Franken may "believe in belief", he's probably the least likely candidate to try to cram it down anybody's throat. In my mind, that puts him way ahead of anybody else.

you mean Gray Davis?

Nnno...Davis (Tom?) of the old Franken & Davis duo.

do you blame him?

Also no.

@sven..

ah, my mistake; that comment came right after the person comparing Schwarzenegger and Franken, and since Arnold displaced Gray (in a disgusting spectacle of how rethuglican money can be used to toss someone from office), I thought that might have been who you meant.

I clipped this out of a comment left on this blog many months ago. Author unknown (sorry!).

There's a lot of focus on Al Franken, comedian. I wish there was more about Al Franken, Harvard graduate, cum laude; Al Franken: Harvard Kennedy School of Government Fellow, or; Al Franken: veteran of seven USO tours.

And that is a very wide two way street of hypocrisy. $10 says there are plenty of Franken supporters who have taken shots over the years at Reagan and Arnold for being actors.

The difference is that Franken has actual merit.

The constitution should be amended to allow Ah-nold and any other American citizen irrespective of place of birth to run for president.

Sure ... in some century when it isn't being done just for Ah-nold.

I'm sorry #1, I don't quite get it. Is there supposed to be some connection between "actor/comedian" and "ah-nold"?

If Franken is a comedian, when was the last time he said something funny? And "Bush is stupid" doesn't count as comedy. By the way, I understand he is polling really well, so give him his senate seat already!!
