Is up at Greg's.
Over at Laelaps. Too busy wrestling the 5-pound monster as I tread water attempting to process the copious verbal excreta, so I appreciate the effort!
Since Just Science starts next week I'm going to have to take a break from Stephen Jay Gould blogging due to the constraints that I'm going to have to adhere to when it comes to posts (i.e., it has to be science). Expect blogging to focus on chapters from W. D. Hamilton Narrow Roads of Gene Land, Volume 1: Evolution of Social Behaviour. You know about kin selection, but do you know kin selection?
...likely carries rs12913832 on her HERC2, and that's fine by me....
Didn't know there was a State of the Union today until I got home and turned on NPR.
Since I've been flogging Just Science, I should note the launch of Research Blogging. Dave has the details.
Seriously, what's up with Robert Wright recruiting a terrorist-looking-dude to chat with the Elf? Is there any way this is good for the financial bottom line? Is this the face of D.C. punditry you want to present to a terrified country? Perhaps someone should look into Wright's bank transaction records and see if some Gulf money has started to flow in.... I mean, there's always a clean cut guy like Will Wllkinson, do we really have such a pundit shortage that we've got to yank a mullah off the bench? I mean, the split screen is a little too reminiscent of the partitions between men &…
Look who's perusing the men seeking men adverts on Craigslist. But you're not surprised, are you?

In preparation for the launch of startswithabang.com, I am attempting to embed a video I had found on youtube, of the slow-motion ignition of a lighter. How does this work?  The video demonstrates that to make something very simple happen (to get a sustained, controlled flame out of a compact piece of equipment), a lot of thought needs to go into how it's made, and what each step is going to accomplish.  A lighter works by the following: Flint and steel rub together (that's turning the wheel) to create very high temperatures along the metal shavings, which fly off in many directions. The…
You probably know about B. Spears' new boy-toy, Adnan Ghalib. Judging from this photo published in The Daily Mail I am starting to wonder if he is a mole bent on corrupting Hollywood so that even the kuffar will become outraged and revolt against the haram that our entertainment industry produces.... On the other hand, one must wonder if Adnan Ghalib has become an irtidad, an apostate to Islam, judging from his ostentatious wearing of a cross in public places (wearing jewelry for a man is haram in any case). Since Ghalib and B. Spears have also engaged in extra-marital sexual relations in…
Just a question for readers. Let's exclude Cosmic Variance, what else out there is good? Any diamonds in the rough?
I really love shrimp & hot sauce. A lot. Over Christmas I purchased some Mezzeta California Habañero Hot Sauce. I checked out the label, no carrot juice to ruin the flavor of the pepper, but likely no pure capsaicin to render the aftertaste chemical. I finished it up pretty quickly, definitely a keeper, I give it a 7 out of 10. The non-hot flavors are closer to 8 or 9, but it could have been somewhat spicier.... Related: 7 days of hot sauce.
I purchased a new computer because I had to send my old laptop to a repair center and I didn't want to wait for it to get back. It's a Toshiba Satellite A215 7422 with Windows Vista Home Premier Edition installed. My immediate question is this: every now and then the screen goes blank and I'm faced with a blue-black nothing. No error or blue-screen-of-death, nothing. I reboot and everything is fine. I haven't had to deal with these problems in XP for a long time (don't remember which service pack fixed any issues), so I'm not really happy about this. Anyone know what's wrong? Second, more…
It's been confirmed, Nicole Kidman is no longer innocent! How the mighty have fallen. Chastity is a value which we no longer aspire to in this age of license & worldly delights....
The primary happens tomorrow, and I'm ready with my predictions (see my Iowa outcome). Republicans: McCain - 33% Romney - 30% Huckabee - 14% Paul - 12% Giuliani - 7% Thompson - 3% Hunter - 1% Keyes - 0% Democrats: Obama - 45% Clinton - 30% Edwards - 19% Richardson - 4% Kucinich - 2% Gravel - 0% Pretty obvious, the main thing is that I think that we haven't seen the Obama crest in the polls, and I suspect that Paul will do better than Giuliani because of the dynamics of the New Hampshire electorate.
