Ian: if you're asking whether that reads more flattering, maybe I didn't choose the right word: I just realized that apasionado / passionate has more positive connotations than other words conveying a (vaguely) similar meaning, like obsesivo / obsessive, or irracional / irrational. You can be passionate on wrong stuff, anyway.
