Is Obama THE ONE?

Is Obama the Antichrist? No, according to Tim LaHaye, co-author of the Left Behind series, who told the Journal that:

"The antichrist isn't going to be an American, so it can't possibly be Obama. The Bible makes it clear he will be from an obscure place, like Romania," the 82-year-old author said.

Phew! Maybe it's George Soros, then? He's from Hungary. Here's a list of Romanian candidates.

Its got to be Nadia Comaneci. How else could a communist get a perfect 10 score in gymnastics.
Or maybe Dracula.

I'm guessing the question was spurred by Hal Lindsey's recent stupidity. Note that Lindsey did not accuse Obama of being the antichrist, but of preparing the way for the Antichrist.

And the Bible says that such a leader will soon make his appearance on the scene. It won't be Barack Obama, but Obama's world tour provided a foretaste of the reception he can expect to receive.

Hm, Romania... home of, for example, the antichrist in the Left Behind series?

I doubt Romanians would view Romania as being "obscure".

This is an encouraging development, because it means that the religious right are now getting to the point of reasoning that anyone who gets enough votes to be President must, ipso facto, be unworthy. So they will only vote for obvious losers. It's the end of Jerry Falwell's great experiment.

As an American Jew of Romanian/Hungarian descent, I resent the idea that Barack Obama would even be considered as the Anti-Christ. I'm the Anti-Christ and have been for decades. Just ask my ex-wife.

You ugly American! Hungarians make a big point of distinguishing themselves from their slavic Eastern European neighbors. We're Central European, dammit! You may as well call West Virginia and Ohio functionally the same place... (I love parochialism just before happy hour.)

Hey now, that was the result of Tim LaHaye's literal reading of the Bible. You know, the part where the Bible literally says "Romania".

"I'm guessing the question was spurred by Hal Lindsey's recent stupidity"

No, it was spurred by John McCain's lame commercial which makes no sense whatsoever unless interpreted as invoking all manner of rapture/antichrist memes to suggest that Obama's the antichrist.

Ha ha, a fundie admitted that Obama is American!
