One of the more amusing displays in this whole circus sideshow has been watching the right suddenly embracing Jesse Jackson, a man they've savaged for years. NewsMax, one of the Worldnutdaily's primary imitators, suddenly calls him "the man regarded by many as the Democratic Party's conscience." How did NewsMax refer to Jackson before this? Well there's this story, headlined Jesse Jackson: Friend of Terrorists, Communist Stooge. And there's this one, wherein he is referred to as "nothing more than a slimy shakedown artist." The Worldnutdaily, not one to be outdone, has actually promoted a National Day of Repudiation of Jesse Jackson, put on by "the other Jesse", Jesse Peterson. But suddenly Jesse Jackson is a fount of moral wisdom in their view. Quite funny.
The Right's Love for Jesse Jackson
One of the hardest parts of the day job is trying to explain why the commons works for science to people.
I was originally going to write about an amazing article that appeared in the NEJM today, but then, as happens all too often, something more compelling caught my eye. Unfortunately, it's compelling in exactly the wrong way. It's infuriating and saddening, all at the same time.
My drive home last night was a bit weird — there were fireworks going off everywhere, and being a bit disconnected from the calendar with all my recent travel I was puzzled by it all. Was Minnesota celebrating my return?
I don't post much about "politics in the news" because I almost never (OK, never) have anything value-added to say.
That is one of the funniest paradoxes of the last few years.
Strange bedfellows. But look, Jesse Jackson is a media whore. People have known that for years. I don't know what Jackson thinks this grandstanding is going to do for him. And I suspect that his son--a congressman from Illinois--is livid.
They might well get additional satisfaction from claiming that someone they've called a "Friend of Terrorists, Communist Stooge" and "nothing more than a slimy shakedown artist" is "the man regarded by many as the Democratic Party's conscience."
Although I'm sure I give them too much credit.
Of course we're at war with Eurasia. We've *always* been at war with Eurasia . . .
Well, I figure that since several years ago he was seen praying with their hero Slobodan Milosevic, they've been wanting to warm to him ever since then and just looking for a reason to. :P
