I am the lucky recipient of another completely unexpected gift from a reader. A reader from Texas named Jeff emailed me today and said he would like to send me a gift basket of authentic Texas BBQ from Cooper's Old Time Pit BBQ, one of the most famous and well reviewed BBQ joints in the nation. I don't know what all is included, but I'm sure there'll be some brisket, which is the heart and soul of Texas BBQ. I didn't start this blog to get rewarded like this, but I sure as hell ain't gonna say no to good BBQ! This is just a way to say thanks to Jeff for his generosity and thoughtfulness. Now Wednesday can't get here fast enough!

This past weekend was the Memphis in May BBQ Competition, one of the largest such competitions in the world. As some of you may know, I am a BBQ fanatic (and I finally just perfected my babyback ribs, by the way) and I love competitions like this, though I've never participated in one.
Okay, I busted into the brisket that was included in the BBQ gift that my Texas reader sent me. I am not exaggerating when I say it was the best brisket I've ever had. I didn't put any of their vinegar-based sauce on it.
It's been a while since I wrote about one of my great passions, BBQ. This weekend I made the best ribs I've ever made with a few minor little experimental adjustments. I tend not to follow the same rules every time, I like to try different things and see how they work out.
I'm off for the rest of the day. I have business to take care of in the afternoon, then I'm off to Lake Idlewild for a jazz festival. An old acquaintance of mine, Vinx, is performing there tonight. He's an absolutely incredible musician and singer.
Way, way off topic, but just to let you know, the Nobel Prizes are starting to be announced. My particular interest is the prize in Physics (my undergrad and grad work was in physics).
The rest of the Nobel Prizes will probably be awarded over the next week.

You spoke of Bourdain the other day, Ed. What do you think of the TV sitcom based on his collection of stories???
and now back to the Nobel awardees eating fine BBQ.

I think you're referring to Kitchen Confidential, but unfortunately I haven't seen it.
