Pat Robertson's Dover Prophecy

In the aftermath of the ruling in Kitzmiller, Pat Robertson famously proclaimed that the people of Dover would be in for some natural disasters and that they had no right to complain about it because they had "thrown God out of their community." Alas, it turns out that Robertson was right. In the wake of God's departure, in walks Kent Hovind - a disaster if ever there was one.

The evangelical group Repent America is bringing about a dozen people to the Dover area next week to spread information before hosting a Creation vs. Darwin debate.

Michael Marcavage, president of the Philadelphia-based group, said people will go door-to-door, post information in public places and distribute information outside particular buildings such as the high school on March 8, 9 and 10.

They want to target the area covered by the district.

They will distribute information about the debate to be held March 17 and 18 in the Dover Area High School and about Scripture, he said.

Kent Hovind, who created a video called "More Reasons Why Evolution is Stupid," is scheduled to speak at the debate.

Marcavage is one of the many nutballs who declared that God sent Hurricane Katrina to destroy New Orleans because of Southern Decadence, a gay event held there. You gotta feel bad for the people of Dover, who have been through more than enough as it is and just want to get on with their lives. To have to put up with lunatics like Hovind and Marcavage going door to door on top of everything else is just cruel.

I just corresponded with Marcavage a few times this evening, ignorant you had written about him. I basically told him about Hovind's refusal to pay income taxes (his philosophy that he shouldn't have to), his lying about Maurice Adkins (felon who Hovind called "an elder" in his ministry, his "paralegal", lied about re the assault arrest, etc.)...

Michael's response?

Once again, you've decided to buy into the lies being reported by anti-
Christian sources on Dr. Hovind. You go on to list, again, people's
accusations, gossip, instead of beliving your brother in Christ. There are many false statements about me all over the Internet, but that does not make them true. If Christians take issue with me, they should come to me first. Have you gone to Dr. Hovind to inquire about the matters you have issue with? As I stated in my previous e-mail, the IRS guideless already exempt churches, ministers, and missionaries from having to pay taxes, however, the courts are the issue.

Never mind that I gave him all the original sources, that he can go on the Escambia County Courthouse website (assault arrest) on his own, never mind the evidence, the reasoning, the arrests...

...I should trust a Christian brother. Once Mike figured out I wasn't a Christian, he accused me of dishonesty and I'm sure will now recuse himself from responsibility for not following up on the evidence and leads.

Seeing christians act like belligerent idiots makes this atheist grin.

I guess my first question is: who will they debating against? Will it be like Fox News, where they couple Hovind and Marcavage with the equivilent of Alan Colmes.

Or the word "debate" really a misnomer and will they be spouting their nonsense unchallenged?

It would be nice if the local Dover papers would cover the debate straight up -- including stories introducing Hovind with his tax troubles, renter troubles, odd theology, and cheap debate tricks.

What are the odds?

Oh, I hope someone slashes his tires :p

I can't remember his name, but I hope that that reporter who skewered the folks during the Dover trial covers this, too.

Wow, talk about generalizations. Seeing atheists organize Gulags makes a Christian very sad.

Roman, anyone's organizing a "Gulag" is sad. But pay attention, will you? It's the conservative self-proclaimed Christians proposing the Gulags these days. Mocking the foolishness of these people is not equivalent to copying their hate-filled goals.

Ed,

I simply don't think one should turn this thing into a part of the global "christians vs. atheists" contest. They can coexist, you know.

steve s.: those aren't Christians, those are hateful dim-witted know-nothings and con-artists, who probably don't even understand Christ's message, let alone follow it, and who would probably crucify him all over again if he came down and questioned their actions.
