Record Month for Dispatches Again

I am happy to announce that August was another record month for this blog with 191,000 hits. That's an average of almost 6200 hits per day. It drops to about 3500 on the weekends, so the average during the week is over 7000 hits per day. I certainly never imagined 3 years ago when I started it that I would ever have that many readers. I have no doubt that a big reason for that is the community that has grown up around it, a community that includes all of you who contribute so much with your comments as well as all of my blog neighbors. So thank you all for keeping things going and helping make this a pretty cool place to hang out.

Hi Ed... Long time reader, first time commenter...

Anyway, I really do like this blog and I read it all the time. I have to admit, I don't care about the WSOP or basketball, but everything else is spot on and I'm glad at least someone out there is ruled by common sense...

Well, I'm a new reader and I have to say it has quickly become my favorite. Keep up the good work.

I figure there's a fairly sizable portion of my audience who really doesn't care about the poker and sports stuff. But since that comprises maybe 5% of what I write, I figure there's plenty of other stuff to keep them happy. My interests are broad and varied and it's not terribly likely that there are too many people who share them all.

But then how come you never promote any of our diaries! waaaaaaah!

Hi Ed,

My mom can't believe I read a blog where I never comment, but after you're done, there's not much more to say. Keep up the brilliant thinking and writing, your a great read and its awesome knowing that America still has some thoughtful people who truly understand the concept of liberty.

As an ardent student of America's framers, our founding ideals, and constitutional law, there's a very tiny group on-line that publish opinions based on sound premises; I'm glad I found you plus I thank you for referring me to many of the others.

BTW - how many unique visitors do you average on this blog? It'd be interesting knowing the number of people that read your blog.

For me in The Netherlands, this blog (and a few others at SB) is a welcome source of information about what's going on in the US.

Thanks for your efforts, Paul.

Hi, Ed.
Congrats on your success. You are one of my top 3 blogs, with Red State Rabble and The Panda's Thumb. I'm getting to appreciate the libertarian ethic.

Congratz!

Now, when are you going to update your blogroll - particularly all the sturdy comrades who've joined you in the scienceblogs.com bloc? ;-)

This is my favorite site. Ed is Integrity personified. He calls his shots at he sees them without partisan blinders.

Ed - Yes, thanks, and I vote for keeping the Basketball posts. I still can't believe that John Travolta and Olivia Newton-JOhn beat Team USA though!

The "Great Debate" posts were good too - how about a little Liberty Debate Team BS follow up?

And what about all the crowing a while back about the traffic on Dr. Buffalo Bill's Uncommonly Dense site??? Has the addition of Denise seriously torqued off that bastion of male-dominated Christo-fascists - I mean Bibleists - I mean ID scientists - at his site?

Aren't you and your buddies at Science Blogs seriously kicking some DI buttocks?

Thanks, because us enquiring minds want to know!

I'm beginning to appreciate the libertarian ethic as well. When someone from another site recommended this and said that Ed was a liberatarian, my first thought was "Oh for fuck's sake. Libertarians? Creationism and evolution? This is really gonna get ugly now."

Turns out (I'm happy to say) that I was dead wrong. I haven't heard you say "Let the market decide" even once (that I remember). Nor have I heard any ridiculous arguments about not paying taxes for roads or schools or hospitals. Turns out you're 99.5% rational, really entertaining and informative, and pretty much never mention Ayn Rand.

It's pretty clear that you are, however, a hater of Jesus and America and therefore a terrorist supporter. But that's why I like this site so much. Helping the terrorists just warms my wicked liberal heart right up. Keep up the good work, you rotten traitorous bastard! ;)
