David writes; I like this picture, even though of a common mushroom variety, because it shows all main stages of the fruiting body simultaneously. I was fortunate in my timing. This picture was taken with my old digital camera. I now have a Pentax K100D, which has breathed new life back into the wonderful lenses I used to use in the days of film.

Yesterday's walk in the woods near Drevinge garnered us the following:
We have two cats, and one of them, Merle, is a shaggy long-haired black beast. And I mean, really shaggy, and shedding constantly. Our first defense against burglary, I think, is the thick clouds of cat fur floating through the atmosphere in our house.
I am in mourning for a character in Six Feet Under who died on us last night. The fifth season is airing in Sweden. And I mull over the final scene. Did another character turn into Shaggy from Scooby Doo and act as the dead person's psychopomp on the way to the hereafter?
What an excellent photo: interesting subject, perfect lighting, great composition. Fungi rule!
Thanks for the great picture! I saw some amazing mushrooms up in Maine this summer but alas, no camera. My dear spouse just got me a book on identifying the things: they're amazing!
