Some of my ScienceBlog colleagues in NYC 2008.
Okay, a reader commented on this image, so I had to leave this here, but one of my colleagues who doesn't want to be revealed to the public was caught in the picture. So here's something different to look at -- one of my favorite pictures, that I have never found an excuse to use.
More like this
In a chat with a colleague today, I learned the following:
1. My colleague thinks the media coverage of swine flu is very overblown.
2. My colleague has already stocked up on face-masks.
Hmmmmm.
I should say up front that I work in a fairly family-friendly department. They were fantastic when I interviewed (Minnow was just 1 month old) and my colleagues have occasionally asked after her development. I brought her to class once last semester and nobody said anything negative.
As the new calendar year approaches, I can't help but anticipate the coming spring semester -- and to hold out the hope that this one will be the semester in which none of my students commits plagiarism. Otherwise, I'm facing a perfect 12-semester streak.
Over the last couple of years I've added contacts to Linked In with a certain amount of consideration. In other words, I've added only links that are "real" in some sense; they are friends and friends of friends, and colleagues and colleagues of colleagues who's name I recognized.
Is that you in the front row? Would it be possible to get names to go with the faces?
That is WAY better than any ScienceBlogger photo!
Great to see you and finally meet you!
That's got to be a Russian hamster invading Georgia, right? Kudos for your up-to-the-minute news coverage.
Could you not have simply blurred or otherwise distorted the face of the colleague in question in order to protect their identity?
For example in this photo of myself I recently posted on the richarddawkins forums...

...I've blurred out the face of my brother-in-law standing behind me (as I didn't want to post his face on the internet without his permission), using the picture editing feature on photobucket. Does flickr have something similar you could use?
Not that I'm dissing the armed rodent in any way (would I dare - it's armed!)
